ANXIETY

Most people will experience some level of anxiety in their life. Anxiety symptoms can include excessive worrying, trouble sleeping, trouble concentrating and panic attacks. Often people will also experience some level of physical distress including a racing or rapid heart beat, dry mouth or gastrointestinal disturbances such as stomach ache, nausea or heart burn. Sometimes these symptoms seems to come out of nowhere and can have a huge impact on your ability to function.

Fortunately, there are therapies that can help manage and even alleviate anxiety symptoms. See the links below for more information about the therapies that I use to help people with Anxiety.

TRAUMA

When most people think of Trauma they think of PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Symptoms of PTSD include intrusive thoughts, flashbacks or nightmares, avoiding reminders of the event, changes in mood, trouble concentrating and sleeping. Traumatic events that can trigger PTSD include car accidents, witnessing violence, serious health problems, abuse or neglect as a child or assault. Whether or not someone is diagnosed with PTSD depends on a number of factors including the severity of the event, whether the person believed they or someone else’s life was in danger, and a personal history of trauma. Some people who experience traumatic events many not develop full PTSD but will experience some distressing symptoms like PTSD or excessive anxiety.

Fortunately, there is an evidenced based treatment for Trauma symptoms including PTSD. EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an effective treatment that I have been trained in to help people overcome Trauma.

I often recommend mindfulness based activities such as meditation and breathing exercises to help my clients deal with anxiety and stress.

This revolutionary way of practicing therapy has been proven to help people process traumatic experiences and heal their emotional scars. EMDR can also be used to alleviate symptoms from anxiety. People who have experienced EMDR often feel as though they are no longer triggered by their traumatic experiences, or distressing emotions. People report feeling freer, happier and healthier.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a more traditional form of talk therapy. I often utilize this form of therapy to help people come to a better understanding of the origins of their problems as well as the strengths that they bring to help overcome them.
